"Vermelho-travão [Brake red] is Joana Hintze’s first solo exhibition in Porto, at the Lehmann + Silva Gallery, bringing together photographs that are mostly made during her nighttime walks through urban spaces, a customary part of her artistic practice. (...) In the joining together of these image-shapes, there are elements with great formal affinities, even though we know that they originally had a different constitution, such as the trickle of water that is a leg and is also a lamppost. For the first time, Hintze welcomes some direct human presence: glances which give indications, the hopping leg, strong hands that hold tight and leave marks during the day. Her body gathers things together, operating in the individualism and anonymity of the pitch-black night, and it is in the transitory urban places that the intuitive movement of her passing gives a rhythm to the images, providing kinetic energy in abundance."
